After breakfast, we have to check out and begin our tour by visiting Ollantaytambo, an impressive archaeological site built during the reign of Inca Pachacutec, between the years 1418 and 1471. Although it was not the first construction in the area, this complex is considered one of the most important, as it served a strategic function as a gateway to Machu Picchu.
What stands out most in Ollantaytambo is not only its imposing archaeological complex, but also the town that surrounds it, which still preserves its ancestral traditions, customs, and architecture. For this reason, it is recognized as a “town with charm.”
In addition to the cultural value of the village, the site’s terraces are particularly striking. Unlike other terraces in the Sacred Valley, these were not used for agricultural purposes. Instead, they were designed with a structural function: to act as retaining walls to prevent landslides.
Ollantaytambo is, ultimately, a place that brings together living history and monumental architecture, where the Inca past continues to resonate in every corner.
Continuing our tour, we will make a stop at Cerámica Seminario, a place rich in art and tradition. This workshop not only offers permanent exhibitions of impressive works of art but also gives visitors the opportunity to participate in an interactive workshop and a hands-on ceramic-making session.
Led by Pablo Seminario and Marilú Béjar, a renowned couple of artists with national and international acclaim, this space offers families a unique and creative experience. During the visit, participants will learn traditional ceramic techniques—from shaping, painting, and dyeing to creating a final piece with their own hands.
A truly fun and enriching experience for the whole family.
It’s time for lunch. We will enjoy a delicious meal in the charming town of Urubamba, before continuing our journey toward the city of Cusco.
After approximately an hour and a half of travel, we will arrive in Cusco, but not before making a stop in the traditional town of Chinchero, where we’ll be treated to a fascinating demonstration of dyeing and Andean textile art, an experience that connects us with the ancient weaving techniques proudly preserved to this day.
